This weekend I got to travel to the NC mountains (my favorite place in the world) for Sarah and Scott’s wedding!
From Sarah: Scott and I have known each other since we were 5 years old and lived a few houses down the road from each other in the same neighborhood. We always had mutual friends but we never really talked to each other much until our freshman year of high school. On the first day of 9th grade, I was getting on the bus (running late as usual) and the only seat left was next to Scott. So I sat with him and I remember thinking how cute his smile was. We started talking and he ended up getting off at my bus stop – he said at the time that it was so he could talk to our friend Mark, but he has since admitted that he really just wanted to keep talking to me. It sounds really cheesy, but we fell in love just a few weeks later.
Fast forward about 7 years, and we were finishing up our junior year of college at Appalachian State. We had known for a while at that point that we wanted to get married after college, but I had no idea when he would propose. I had hinted that I wanted him to of course, but it was still a big surprise when he told me to get dressed up and meet him for a picnic at our favorite spot on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Right as the sun started to set, he asked me to stand up and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
As we started to plan our wedding, we quickly realized what we wanted our theme to be. Scott and I are both huge Disney fans and our favorite movie is Tangled (we’re pretty sure that the movie is actually about us). So we decided to make it our theme and have a fairytale wedding with purple and yellow and lots of lanterns. I’ll never forget the moment I walked through the doors and saw all of our family and friends standing there in this beautiful room covered in lights and flowers – and, best of all, the moment I saw Scott at the end of the aisle with tears in his eyes and a huge smile on his face. He says that as soon as I entered the room, he couldn’t see anyone else for the rest of the ceremony.
Our favorite part of the night was the send-off at the end, when the DJ played “At Last I See the Light” from Tangled and all of our friends and family lined up outside the reception hall with lanterns in their hands to light our way as we left. I think I cried most of my makeup off at that point because I was just so overwhelmed with happiness! Our wedding was everything we ever dreamed of and our hearts have never been so full!
